Facilities

North Downs Specialist Referrals operates from a state of the veterinary hospital. The following is a brief tour of our facilities.

Consulting rooms

We currently run four consulting rooms one of which is a dedicated ophthalmology room.

In house laboratory

There are extensive in house laboratory facilities for cases requiring urgent results particularly when commercial laboratories are unavailable. Facilities include biochemistry, electrolyte analysis, blood gas analysis, coagulation profiles, blood typing and microscopy.

Wards

There is extensive dog kenneling including walk in kennels large enough to hospitalise giant breed dogs. There are separate wards for day and hospitalised patients We have separate wards for hospitalising cats where they can be treated away from the dog patients.

Operating theatres

There are two fully equipped sterile theatres. Facilities in the theatres include electrocautery, suction, advanced anaesthetic monitoring and mechanical ventilation. Anaesthetic monitoring in theatre include pulse oximetry, capnography ECG and non invasive blood pressure. There is the necessary instrumentation to carry out a range of complex surgeries.

Diagnostics

We have facilities to perform the wide range of investigations required by referral patients. These include a full range of fibre optic endoscopes for gastrointestinal, nasal and respiratory investigations, ECG and electrodiagnostics.

Diagnostic imaging

There is a newly installed xray suite and a state of the art colour flow doppler ultrasound scanner. We hold a fortnightly MRI clinic at the practice. There is access off site MRI for emergency cases.

Anaesthesia

We have facilities for advanced and complex anaesthesia. All our anaesthesia monitored by qualified nurses. Cases requiring complex anaesthesia such as brain surgery we use a consultant specialist anaesthetist.

Anaesthetic facilities include advanced anaesthetic monitoring including ECG, capnography, pulse oximetry and blood pressure, sevoflurane and isoflurane anaesthesia, mechanical ventilation, muscle relaxation techniques and advanced analgesia including fentanyl infusion and local techniques.
