Two new clinicians join our Internal Medicine Team

We are pleased to welcome Laura Macfarlane and Alenka Hrovat Vernik to the NDSR internal medicine team. These additional clinicians increase the capacity of the service to see both routine and emergency cases.

Laura graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2009. She then completed a rotating internship at the Royal Veterinary College, London. Following this, she spent a year and a half in first opinion practice in Northern Ireland. In 2012 she returned to the University of Glasgow to commence a combined masters and ECVIM-CA internal medicine residency programme, which she completed in 2016. Although Laura enjoys all areas of internal medicine, her particular area of interest and the subject of her masters research is canine hyperadrenocorticism.

Alenka Hrovat Vernik

Internal Medicine Clinician

Alenka graduated from the Veterinary faculty of University in Ljubljana in 2002. After graduation she participated in two internships, one a short rotating internship in Slovenia, the other an internal medicine internship at the University Teaching Hospital in Munich, Germany. Alenka then spent a year as a first opinion practitioner before completing a PhD degree programme in molecular biology (endocrinology) at the University in Ljubljana in 2009. Between 2010 and 2013 Alenka completed the internal medicine residency programme at Ghent University in Belgium. After working as Head of Internal Medicine at a referral practice in Wiltshire, she took a one year position as a senior internal medicine clinician at Langford Veterinary Services, Small Animal Referral Hospital at Bristol University.

Alenka enjoys all aspects of internal medicine but her main areas of interest are endocrinology and gastroenterology. She is currently studying towards the Diploma of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.
