Feline Blood Transfusions

ndsr-video-consultations-1

Feline anaemia is a common reason for referral to our internal medicine service. Due to the lack of easily accessible blood banking for cats in the UK, providing transfusions in an emergency situation can be problematic. Often we have to rely on staff cats and donor lists.

Due to the high number of cats requiring transfusion seen at NDSR we now keep two units of cat blood banked at the hospital for such emergency cases.
