Joao graduated from the University of Oporto (Portugal) in 2001. He started working in private practice in Portugal, during which time he developed a special interest in cardiology.
In April 2003 Joao moved to the UK and spent two years in practice, before moving to Liverpool to take the position of Resident in Veterinary Cardiology. He gained his Certificate in Veterinary Cardiology in 2006 and became an ECVIM-CA (cardiology) Diplomate in 2009. He became an RVCS recognised Specialist in Veterinary Cardiology in 2011. Joao enjoys all aspects of small animal cardiology, with particular interest in myocardial function and interventional treatment of congenital heart diseases.

After graduating from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Lisbon (Portugal) in 2003, Joel spent five years in general practice in Portugal where he developed a special interest in cardiology. He then moved to Italy where he began an internship at Clinica Veterinaria Gran Sasso in Milan, followed by a three-year residency in cardiology in joint collaboration between Clinica Veterinaria Gran Sasso and the Queen's Veterinary School Hospital at Cambridge University.
Joel became a European recognised Specialist in Cardiology in 2014. He enjoys all aspects of clinical cardiology, but has a particular interest in advanced cardiac imaging and interventional treatment of congenital heart disease.
