RVN Bsc(Hons) Grad Dip VN

I qualified as a registered veterinary nurse in 2009 from the Royal Veterinary College after completing a BSc(Hons) degree in veterinary nursing. Later that year I joined North Downs Specialist Referrals and began working as a multi-disciplinary nurse. In 2013, I started working as a neurology nurse and in 2019 became the senior neurology nurse. In 2015, I completed the graduate diploma in professional and clinical veterinary nursing from the Royal Veterinary College. I developed a keen interest in inspiring people to become interested in both neurology and referral nursing and has published articles in veterinary journals and provided lectures and webinars internally and externally for nurses.

In October 2021, following the introduction of a professional development initiative, I joined the ward supervisor team. Responsibilities include; providing day-to-day professional and operational supervision to the team within wards, offering support and guidance to new members of staff and escalate concerns to nursing manager, ensuring the provision of care to patients is of a high standard, monitoring care of equipment in wards and liaising with colleagues in diagnostics, theatre and reception to ensure the patient journey is smooth and efficient.

In December 2022, I began a maternity cover position for lead ward supervisor and quality nurse manager. The quality manager role ensures there is an efficient and effective organisation of quality standards throughout the nursing team, ensuring a high quality is maintained in line with policies and standard operating procedures. The role involves working with other nurse managers to help maintain and monitor nursing quality standards.

I work towards achieving a high standard of patient care and ensuring this is met across the nursing team. I enjoy implementing positive changes and encouraging team members to assist with these, helping to explain and demonstrate why we are making change.
