Having graduated from the veterinary school of the Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona (Spain) in 1999, Maria Angeles spent a year working in Spain before moving to the United Kingdom, where she worked for two years before joining the Royal Veterinary College of London (RVC).
From 2003-2007, Angie completed an anaesthesia internship and residency at the RVC. She then worked as a clinical instructor in anaesthesia at the RVC from June 2007 to August 2011.
After that, she moved to the United States of America where she worked as an assistant professor in anaesthesiology at the University of Minnesota for two and a half years. In 2014 she returned to the United Kingdom to work as a clinical anaesthetist at the Animal Health Trust.
In January 2015, Angie joined North Downs Specialist Referrals and is currently working as Specialist veterinary anaesthetist and Head of anaesthesia department. Her clinical interests are pain recognition and management, anaesthetic management of the compromised patient and artificial ventilation. Maria Angeles holds a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Certificate in Veterinary Anaesthesia (CertVA) and is a Board certified Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia (DECVAA).

Aurora Zoff

American Specialist in Anaesthesia and Analgesia
Aurora graduated from Bologna Veterinary University in Italy in 2009. After spending some time in first opinion practice in Italy, she moved to the United Kingdom in the summer of 2011. She undertook a small animal anaesthesia internship and subsequently a European and American Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia residency at the University of Liverpool. Aurora then worked in referral practices in the West Midlands and Hampshire before joining North Downs Specialist Referrals.
Aurora passed her American Diploma boards in 2017, and she is now a Diplomate of the American College of Anaesthesia and Analgesia. Her interests include treatment of chronic pain, peri-operative fluid therapy and critical care.

Rui Pinelas

Rui Pinelas graduated from the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), Portugal in 2003. After two years in general practice he joined the surgery service of the same university, where he developed a special interest in anaesthesia and analgesia.
In 2008, Rui started a three year residency in the same area at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC), United Kingdom, where, in 2011, he also obtained his Masters in Veterinary Medicine. After a brief period back in UTAD and later the RVC, he initially became a part of the NDSR team in 2016. Following a brief stint in the north of England to enjoy the mountain air, Rui re-joined the NDSR anaesthesia team mid-2019.
Rui obtained his European Diploma in Anaesthesia and Analgesia in 2014 and became a RCVS recognised specialist in Anaesthesia in 2016. His main interests are regional analgesia and anaesthesia for cardiac procedures.

Jodie Hughes

EBVS® European Specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia
Jodie graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2011. She enjoyed two years working in mixed practice in Stratford-upon-Avon before returning to Liverpool to specialise in anaesthesia. Jodie completed her residency training in 2018, staying on at the University of Liverpool as a lecturer in veterinary anaesthesia.
The following year she obtained her European Diploma in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia and became a recognised RCVS Specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia. Jodie joined the team at North Downs Specialist Referrals in the Spring of 2020.
Jodie is interested in all aspects of veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia with a particular focus on patient safety.

Roger Medina Serra

Roger graduated from the University of Murcia in 2014 and has completed two anaesthesia internships, one at his alma mater, the other at the University of Liverpool. He then moved to the Royal Veterinary College of London to undertake a residency in anaesthesia and analgesia.
Roger is interested in all aspects of Anaesthesia, although is keen to focus on pain management, local anaesthesia techniques, and management of critical patients.
