Rodolfo Cappello

Rodolfo graduated from the University of Milan in1989 and worked in general practice for 6 years. In 1995 he joined the Royal Veterinary College as a resident in neurology and neurosurgery. He achieved Board certification in Veterinary Neurology in 1997 and became a staff clinician at the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals.

In 1999, Rodolfo was awarded Petplan funding to pursue a 3 year research project into intervertebral disc degeneration in dogs, for which he was awarded his PhD. Rodolfo was then appointed Lecturer in Neurology at the Royal Veterinary College. In 2007, he joined NDSR, where he is now Director of the Neurology service.

Rodolfo became an RCVS recognised Specialist in Neurology in 2009. He has particular interest in intervertebral disc disease, vitamin E deficiency, caudal cervical instability in Dobermans, brain surgery, syringohydromyelia and advanced diagnostic imaging.

Francesca graduated from the University of Padua (Italy) in 2011. Following graduation she performed a PhD from 2012 to 2016 at the University of Padua with a thesis on intervertebral disc degeneration in a large animal model. Meanwhile, she worked as a Small Animal Veterinarian and Clinical Assistant in Neurology at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of the same University.

Francesca moved to the UK in 2014 and started an internship in neurology at Dick White Referrals, where she then completed a three-year residency programme in small animal veterinary neurology and neurosurgery.

She enjoys all aspects of neurology and neurosurgery, with a particular interest in spinal surgery, metabolic and intracranial disorders.


Veronica Mortera

Veronica graduated from Spain in 2009 and then spent four years working in several small animal hospitals in the UK and Spain, with a strong focus on emergency care. During this time, she developed a passion for neurology and visited many referral centres and hospitals in the UK to expand her knowledge.

In 2014 she completed an internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at Glasgow University where she authored a paper on MRI abnormalities in dogs with portosystemic shunts. She also spent three months at the World Health Organisation, in Geneva, helping in the development of Public Health guidelines.

Veronica finished a 3 years residency in Neurology and Neurosurgery at Bristol University in January 2018 where she specialised in spinal surgery and inflammatory diseases of the brain.


Emma Laws

Emma graduated from the University of Bristol in 2013 and then spent 18 months in a busy first opinion hospital in Chippenham. During this time she focused on emergency and critical care and developed a passion for neurology. She returned to Bristol University for a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery. She then continued at the same institution for her three year residency programme in Small Animal Neurology and Neurosurgery which she completed in July 2018.

During her residency, Emma authored two papers on polyradiculoneuritis and has a keen interest in neuromuscular diseases although she enjoys all aspects of neurology and neurosurgery. At home she has two cheeky little dachshunds called Osho and Olby who keep her entertained with their mischief.
